BackgroundECMI office in Kosovo functions as a part of ECMI (with HQ in Flensburg). It is an action-oriented project that aims at stabilizing interethnic relations in the transition period in Kosovo and supporting the government in generating effective practices in majority-minority relations. ECMI has been active in Kosovo since 2001, working with civil society and, since 2004, the Prime Minister’s Office and other relevant ministries. Ever since then its areas of competence were multifold. There are a number of major international and local organizations in Kosovo that include minority issues within their mandates. ECMI, however, is the only on-site organization devoted exclusively to minorities and minority-related topics. It has now a long standing experience through various successful programmes focused on the communities’ rights and related to political participation, conflict transformation, social inclusion, equal economic opportunities, linguistic and cultural diversity. |
