Fostering youth development and employment through a cross-border digital entrepreneurship academy (Y.D.E.A.) in Lezha and Prizren

The economic sector of information and communication technology (ICT) services is a rapidly growing market on the global scale, and hence accounted to have promising prospects of nurturing future employment nationally and internationally. In view of high numbers of youth unemployment in south-east Europe, the need to modernize and internationalize education has recently been recognized by governing and international institutions in Kosovo. Initial steps of investment in ICT trainings aimed at creating employment opportunities have been taken especially focusing on the employment of women and other marginalized groups on the national labour market - that by implication are open to and in need of further development.

This project puts forward one way to fill in this gap by engaging youth in a process of informing, capacity-building and networking in order to use the integration process and the exchange to build up their CVs and their chances for employment and success. This programme focus on digital entrepreneurship, where chances for young professionals and start-up businesses are the highest.

All activities implemented under this project are ultimately aimed at strengthening educational capacities of vocation training institutions fostering youth (self-) employment in the field of digital entrepreneurship.

Overall objectives and activities of the project

The overall objective of the proposed action is to enable youth networking and capacity building in the field of digital entrepreneurship and to encourage the exchange of best practice between municipalities, vocational education institutions and the local business sector in Kosovo and Albania. In particular the project will:

1.Increase the youth (self-) employment opportunities in Lezha and Prizren through the establishment of a cross-border youth digital entrepreneurship academy (YDEA), i.e. provisions of one year training program on digital skills and entrepreneurship followed with further tailored capacity building support and supervision.

2.Strengthen the networking of young entrepreneurs and the private business sector on the local and national level in Kosovo and Albania on organized job fairs tailoring the academy’s activities with the demands of the local business sector.

3.Enhance the capacity building and exchange of best practice of educational and vocational public and/or private institutions on both sides of the border through their active involvement in the setup and implementation of the academy programme and subsequent adaption of the training concept of the academy.

Estimated results

1. 50 young people from Lezha and Prizren will be trained in digital entrepreneurship which thus provides access to modern on-job-skills and increased youth (self-) employment opportunities.

1.1. Young women and minority groups in the communities in Lezha and Prizren participate in the exchange and Y.D.E.A. program.

2. 50 local private businesses (25 from Albania, 25 from Kosovo) will get in contact with each other and a pool of young, highly-qualified digital entrepreneurs. The organized job fairs in both countries will stimulate networking and new employment opportunities across the border.

3. 2 vocational educational institutions from Prizren and Lezha will provide a high-quality training on digital entrepreneurship. This will improve their educational offers and increase their attractiveness to numerous new students. Knowledge-exchange between the teachers and institutions will take place and new contacts with local businesses will be created.
