ECMI Kosovo Internship Program

 
ECMI Kosovo welcomes interns to its main office in Prishtinë/Priština and its secondary office in Mitrovica/ë North. Interns will have the opportunity to learn about ECMI Kosovo’s work in the area of minority rights and to gain practical experience at a dynamic non-governmental organization (NGO) in Kosovo.
 

The Positions - Duties & Responsibilities

 
Interns will participate in research, communication and administration, under the supervision of a Project Manager and/or the Executive Director. Interns may be assigned to a particular project or support activities conducted within the framework of several projects. While ECMI Kosovo will attempt to engage interns in the areas that best match their interests, interns are required to be flexible in their assignments whilst at ECMI Kosovo.
 
Some of the regular duties of interns include, but are not limited to, the following:
 
  • Conducting research on minority issues in Kosovo;
  • Contributing to drafting, editing, proofreading and formatting publications and materials developed by ECMI Kosovo;
  • Monitoring news and developments related to minority issues in Kosovo;
  • Contributing to drafting and compiling ECMI Kosovo’s monthly newsletter;
  • Attending and reporting on ECMI Kosovo’s conferences, workshops and other events;
  • Contributing to the ongoing operations of ECMI Kosovo, implementation of project activities and development of new projects;
  • Fulfilling other tasks as needed.
 
Internship positions are unpaid
 
ECMI Kosovo is unfortunately not in the position to cover travel or any other costs related to the internship.

Interns' Profile
  • Students or recent graduates in human rights, international relations, political science, conflict studies, or other relevant areas;
  • Knowledge of Albanian and/or Serbian is considered strong asset;
  • Demonstrable affinity to human rights, minority rights, and gender issues;
  • Excellent editing, writing and research skills in English;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task and work under time pressure;
  • Motivation, positive work attitude, professionalism and reliability;
  • Practical experience working in relevant areas is an asset;
  • Knowledge and understanding of Kosovo and the Western Balkans is an asset.
Internship Periods
ECMI Kosovo offers qualified candidates the opportunity to apply for three internship programs:
 
Please note that these dates are flexible and we welcome interns who can stay for an extended period of time.
 
Spring program: 1 February – 30 April 2017. Deadline for applications is 10 January 2017.
 
Summer program: 1 May – 31 July 2017. Deadline for applications is 31 March 2017.
 
Autumn program: 1 September – 30 November 2017. Deadline for applications is 31 July 2017.
 
ECMI Kosovo may accept applications on a rolling basis. We therefore recommend candidates to not wait until the deadline to submit their applications.
 
ECMI Kosovo may occasionally advertise specific internship opportunities to support particular areas of work (e.g. Communications Internships). Such opportunities will be advertised on ECMI Kosovo’s website.

  • Covering Letter (specifying, inter alia, your relevant qualifications for this specific position, your motivation to work on minority issues at ECMI Kosovo in Pristina or Mitrovica North);
  • Short, unedited writing sample (e.g. an essay or research paper) in English (2-5 pages) on a relevant topic;
