Legislative framework

Article 24 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo states: “No one shall be discriminated against on grounds of race, colour, gender, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, relation to any community, property, economic and social condition, sexual orientation, birth, disability or other personal status”. In line with this statement, the Republic of Kosovo has established an anti-discrimination legislative framework, which is generally considered among the most progressive and expansive in the world in terms of protected grounds and domains for applicability. Although not a member of international organisations and thus not obliged to follow international anti-discrimination legislation, the Kosovo Constitution provides for the direct applicability of specified international agreements, in particular United Nations and European legislation on human rights and anti-discrimination.
