ECMI Kosovo engages in action-oriented projects aimed at stabilising interethnic relations in post-independence Kosovo and supporting the government in generating effective practices in majority-minority relations. Working closely with the Kosovo authorities, minority stake-holders and international organisations, ECMI Kosovo has played a significant role in the development of minority rights legislation and community-based policy over the past decade. ECMI Kosovo now focuses on the strengthening of institutions for the protection of minorities and building the capacity of minority civil society organisations to engage with the government, in order to ensure that commitments to minorities will be implemented in a sustained and effective way.
ECMI Kosovo offers substantive competence in relation to human and minority rights, decentralization, policy-making and programming on minority issues and the inclusion of minorities in political decision-making processes. Currently, ECMI Kosovo is providing:
- Support to Minority Communities during and after the Decentralisation Process.
- Support to Municipal Officials in Kosovo by Promoting Language-learning Opportunities.
- Assistance to Municipal Officials with the Aim of Improving the Delivery of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian Education.
- Sensitivity and Awareness-Raising Trainings to Teachers and Parents of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities in schools.
- Support to Persons from Vulnerable and Marginalized Groups in Kosovo (VMGs), including Women, Disabled Persons, Minority Communities, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Returnees and Repatriated Persons, Enhancing the Positive Impact of the Law for Those Groups.
- Institutional Support to the Kosovo Consultative Council for Communities.
ECMI Kosovo is accepted by minority representatives, the Kosovo government and international actors as a key partner. In the implementation of projects, ECMI Kosovo aims to cooperate with all relevant actors and stakeholders to ensure effective cooperation and avoid duplications of efforts. Moreover, ECMI Kosovo prioritises the direct involvement and leadership of government officials and community organisations throughout project activities to build their capacity and sense of ownership over the projects outcomes, ensuring sustainability and a lasting impact. |
